Celebrate Earth Day with ECO Frames

In 2009, the boutique eyewear brand, Modo, created ECO - the first brand of glasses made from 95% recycled content. Alessandro Lanaro, the founder of Modo, wanted to make a line of glasses that had the primary purpose of being kind to the environment. As a brand, Eco pride themselves on being socially responsible; they facilitate the donation of old glasses to people in need. But the Eco eyewear lines do not sacrifice style and quality while prioritizing these ideals. In the Eco range you will find fashion forward styles, a beautiful array of colors, premium materials, and detailed craftsmanship.

ONE FRAME – ONE TREE

ECO® was “born recycled” in 2009, with the start of the program ONE FRAME – ONE TREE, in partnership with the NGO Trees for the Future. Since then, ECO has donated and planted a tree for every frame sold. So far, ECO® has planted over 1.5 million trees!

ECO Biobased eyewear is made from 63% renewable non-food oil, certified by the USDA, and a tree is planted for every frame sold. ECO has sustainability and social responsibility as its main commitments, and we empower customers to reuse ECO’s packaging and donate their unwanted eyewear to people in need.

IT ALL STARTS WITH A SEED

A seed that is given to farmers and then planted in nurseries. Bare-stem transplanting workshops are held by specialists like Kingsley Neba. Farmers are taught by Trees for the Future about agroforestry and other sustainable farming techniques.

EDUCATING AND EMPOWERING

The workshops extend throughout the community and even to public schools, like the Ecole Publique Dschang Renka Michel, where, with the help of their amazing school director Heleine Tsopmo, children learn farming techniques that will help them create a brighter future in Cameroon, a country in Central Africa.

FARMING

From the nurseries, plants and baby trees are transplanted into fields where farmers continue to cultivate and evolve their land and benefit from their improved soil and recurring crop yields. With sustainable resources of income, residents like Anaje can feed themselves, and their livestock and make a living.

All ECO biobased frames are constructed with a functional yet invisible spring hinge, allowing for a more comfortable, lightweight fit. The temple tips are adjustable, with a stainless steel core and anti-slip finish.
